State Poster Contest Rules

Michigan Association of Conservation
District Employees Sponsored
2007 Poster Contest

(Distributed by MACDE and in compliance with NACD poster contest rules)

Conservation's Power

ELIGIBILITY

The MACDE poster contest is open to kindergarten through twelfth grade students. Each Conservation District may choose which grades will participate. A valid contest may be conducted without including all grades K-12. For example grade school only or high school only. Each Conservation District may decide which grades will participate in their own District's contest. Artwork entered must have been evaluated in a local conservation district sponsored poster contest before being sent to the MACDE State contest. One poster may be entered in each of the following grade categories:

  • K-1
  • 2-3
  • 4-6
  • 7-9
  • 10-12
MACDE poster contest judges select a first, second and third place winner for each of these categories. Deadline to submit posters for the MACDE state contest is October 31, 2006. The first place winner of each category from the state contest will be submitted to the NACD national contest by December 1, 2006. MACDE reserves the right to not enter a poster for every grade level to the NACD poster contest.

CONTEST RULES

  • Any media may be used to create a flat or two-dimensional effect (paint, crayon, colored pencil, charcoal, marker, paper, photographs, stickers, glitter, colored glue, magazine cut outs or any other materials).
  • Poster size must be between 8.5" x 11" and 22" x 28".
  • All posters must have a completed entry form attached to the back of each poster.
  • Posters should be packaged so they remain flat when sent for judging. They will be returned in the same or similar packaging after the contest.
  • Each entry must have been evaluated at a conservation district's most recent competition prior to the MACDE state evaluation.
  • Only the first place winner from each grade category should be sent to the MACDE state contest.
  • Deadline for submitting posters to the MACDE state contest is October 31, 2006.
  • All posters must be created by an individual student rather than a team of students.
  • Although younger students will most likely receive help in planning from parents or teachers, MACDE encourages each student to do as much of the work as possible by him/herself.

POSTER EVALUATIONS

Posters entered into the MACDE state poster contest are reviewed by three judges. The posters are evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Conservation message-50 percent
  • Visual effectiveness-30 percent
  • Originality-10 percent and
  • Universal appeal-10 percent.

PRIZES

Certificates of participation will be awarded to each entry. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded by MACDE in each of the five grade categories. Exact prizes will be determined by the MACDE Board at the 2006 All Employees Conference and are subject to change year to year.

Winners for each grade category will be announced at the December 2006 MACD Annual Meeting. All attempts will be made to return posters to their respective Conservation Districts at that time. All other posters will be returned in a timely manner.

Only the first place winner from each grade category (five posters total) will be sent onto the NACD national poster contest. After the national contest is complete, NACD will return posters to the MACDE representative in charge of the state contest. This representative will return posters to the entering Conservation Districts.
